The lawyers of the former Italian tennis player have shared new revelations after yesterday’s
Camila Giorgi’s lawyers – Federico Marini and Cristian Carmelo – have explained that the former tennis player’s escape from Italy is due to reasons that do not concern the affair linked to the investigations into the tax problems the player had.
In recent days, however, the Revenue Agency has presented a deed of seizure against third parties to the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation.
Camila Giorgi owes $464,000 to the IRS for unpaid taxes. In a news report reported by the Italian agency Ansa, Giorgi’s lawyers explained the reasons for her disappearance, after what they had already said yesterday and which we at Tennis Word USA had reported to you.

“Regarding the removal from the Calenzano residence, it was a temporary removal due to a divergence of views within the family, and the desire to take a pause for reflection to decide how to plan one’s life after abandoning the competitive activity. There is no intention of escaping investigations or responsibilities, indeed there has always been maximum transparency and collaboration when required.
This is actually a decision that has been made for several months, ever since after Covid Camila was thinking of gradually slowing down, she was having difficulty coping with the stress of competitive activity. In any case, Camila will soon return to Italy and will be able to give all the necessary explanations, also through her lawyers, in the competent offices,” they explained.

However, despite the lawyers’ words, the real reasons why Camila said goodbye to tennis without any warning are still unknown, with the decision communicated directly to the ITIA, the organization responsible for safeguarding the integrity of tennis professional all over the world.
“She was acquitted by the Prato prosecutor’s office for failing to declare a few thousand euros relating to 2013 and 2014. She had moved abroad but had not changed her tax residence. In total there were around 11 thousand euros and 32 thousand another year, a sum however less than 50 thousand euros, so he would have to pay the undeclared amounts, but it is not a crime. She was acquitted with a decree read on 14 December 2023 at the Prato prosecutor’s office. The deadline for filing the ruling expired on March 13 but it has not yet been filed. It is possible that investigations are also underway for failure to declare her in the following years until 2016 when she returned to Italy but this is a matter of little importance.
She retired because she was tired,” explained (as we told you yesterday) Camila’s lawyer to La Stampa.
