The Pole reached the semi-finals of the Italian Open
“Sometimes it’s like a roller coaster. But today I’m proud of myself because I felt I was playing better and it was definitely the best day for me in Rome.”
With these words shared in the on-court interview, Iga Swiatek analyzed her victory which allowed her to reach the semi-finals of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia after a victory in straight sets against the American Madison Keys. The WTA No.1 dominated the quarterfinal match against the Pole, winning with the final score of 6-1 6-3, confirming herself once again as the tennis player to beat on clay courts. In the same on-court post-match interview, Iga explained the emotions she felt after winning the match against Keys.
“For sure it’s not always the same. Every match has a different flavour. When you play like 80 matches a year it seems like a routine, sometimes you really feel great emotions. Like after the final in Madrid, it was really emotional. Sometimes you feel relief, which maybe isn’t always the best way is life,” she told.
On the eve of the match against Keys, Swiatek explained: “I just want to maintain my rhythm and stay focused. Playing against Madison is never easy. Physically I feel good, I’ve had a couple of days off since we finished in Madrid, but it was enough for me to get going again, so physically I have no problems. Now there are games to play in a row, it’s always like this in these tournaments and I’ll get used to it.”
Swiatek will now face winner of the match between Coco Gauff and Zheng Qinwen, in the semi-final of the Italian Open.
